Cleveland Hotel Information

Special World Congress Rates

Delegates are encouraged to book their hotel accommodations well in advance, preferably by late January 2017. In mid-May the hotel room availability in Downtown Cleveland is usually tight, because of many college and professional school graduations. Of course, we fully expect the WORLD CHAMPION CLEVELAND CAVALIERS (NBA basketball) to be in the playoffs again in May 2017, which will bring more people to Downtown Cleveland. But the real room crunch will be the second weekend of the Art Deco Congress, which is also the weekend of the CLEVELAND MARATHON, attracting over 20,000 runners, many from out-of-town. [There are about 5000 hotel rooms in Downtown Cleveland.]

We have made arrangements for special Congress rates at several properties, covering several hotel chains, so delegates can take advantage of their loyalty programs. The rates listed do not include hotel room taxes, currently at 13.5%.

METROPOLITAN AT THE 9

2017 East 9th Street

The METROPOLITAN AT THE 9 is the World Congress Host Hotel. Originally an office building for the Cleveland Trust Company—a leading bank–it’s the only skyscraper ever designed by one of the fathers of modern architecture, Marcel Breuer. It’s part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott. Much of the mid-century vibe has been preserved in the common areas, and it’s got enough swank to rival many hotels in Manhattan or Las Vegas.

All rooms have a sitting area. Suites have bathtubs, all other rooms have a shower.

RESIDENCE INN DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND

527 Prospect Avenue East

The RESIDENCE INN DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND was originally built as the Colonial Hotel in 1898, and some common areas include reminders of its Victorian past with ornate plasterwork and stained glass. Rooms are about 50% larger than the average hotel room, have high ceilings, kitchenettes, and were recently redecorated in mellow shades of grey, blue, and green. The room rate INCLUDES BREAKFAST. Management will permit up to 4 guests per room, so if your budget is tight, this could be an economical alternative. Three or four friends could stay in a one-bedroom suite, and use the sofa bed in the living room. There’s an excellent grocery store (Heinen’s: www.heinens.com) a few blocks away, so you could prepare some dinners in your suite.
